Found via Facebook (from a high-school-acquaintance’s comment on it). The photo’s caption reads (poor writing and all): If anyone tries to give you one of these bills as change, please refuse it for a bill that has not been defaced- do it for those who died on 9/11. Because people of the Islamic faith didn’t die on September 11, 2001? Because “no God but Allah” is so different from “in God we trust”? (It could be argued that “in God we trust” itself is disrespectful to American values, as a nation where “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”.) Furthermore, the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) all maintain that God revealed himself to Abraham. For those not familiar, Islam believes that the prophet Muhammad was descended from Abraham through his son, Ishmael; Christians believe that Jesus descended through Abraham’s other son, Isaac (himself one of the patriarchs of the Israelites). All three religions essentially believe in the same God (though in different way). Granted, I don’t know the intentions of the person who defaced this bill. But the assumption that this somehow dishonors the victims of September 11 is disturbing.
